Might or Hearts & Minds?
Mark presents a new revisionist treatment of the Roman
conquest in northern Britain and searches for the
truth. Did military muscle win over hearts and minds?
Were the Romans really invincible? Why did northern
Britons refuse to yield under the Roman yoke. The
team visit Warrington and Chester and, with the help
of Take 27’s, CGI recreate the Roman landscape. Mark
witnesses the first Roman finds in his home town.

Episode 2:
Secret Worlds, Hidden Realms
The northwest’s lost landscapes, a wilderness of dense
impenetrable forests in Wirral and Delamere featuring
towering crags, swirling black mire of misty tidal
marshes. We’re on the trail of the mysterious identity
of legendary hero Robin Hood in Nottingham Castle's
dungeons & the rapidly disappearing Sherwood Forest.
After being hunted to extinction, we discover one
species who is pretty happy with the way things are
going, the Wild Boar.

Episode 3: Britain's
Darkest Days & Finest Hour
Wirral once again reveals its rich archaeology. A
poignant visit was the entry to the U Boat only a
few days before it was dissected for display. Did
this once carry archaeological treasures? The Spear
of Destiny stolen by Hitler to win the war? U boats
like this were used to ship exiled Nazis and their
booty to places like South America. The team also
talk to the Curator of the Cammell Laird collection
at Wirral Museums, a Blitz survivor in Birkenhead,
the investigators who excavated a crashed Spitfire
at Birkenhead Parkand a man who witnessed a dramatic
Spitfire-Heinkel dogfight over his house as a boy...

Episode 4: Into
the Abyss
Mark descends into the ‘dark crystal’ of a subterranean
world to investigate underground Britain & confronts
extinct prehistoric predators and the finest rock
art ever discovered in the UK. Incredible adventures
begin for the 'man in black' as he investigates Buxton,
the Capital of the Peaks and finally enters the beauty
of Blue John Mines, Speedwell and Poole’s Cavern (
and the Devil's Arse also known as Peak Cavern!) on
the trail of lost treasures which await visitors to
Derbyshire.

Episode 5: New
Blood of the Vikings
Mark’s in hot pursuit of more intriguing stories on
the trail of the feared Norsemen which leads on to
some the biggest reveals of Viking history anywhere
in Britain. Professor Steve Harding helps Mark to
unravel some geneaological mysteries relating to Viking
ancestry in the north west and their big plans for
Dublin. Our battle hardened weapons expert, Mike Loades
demonstrates the violent struggle between Saxons &
Vikings right on our doorstep. And then there’s that
controversial Valkyrie at a Neston church. Mark turns
history on its head with a strong argument for revealing
Viking iconography...

Episode 6: The
Gateway to Arthur's Avalon
And so to that most illusive of royals, King Arthur.
There’s no doubt the guy existed in legend. In reality
of his life here in this region is tantalizing. What
evidence can we point to? Mark explores the mysterious
centuries between the Romans & Norman Conquest
and discovers the controversial possibility that the
legendary lost kingdom of Arthur exists in NW Britain.
In fine 'kick ass' mode weapons expert Mike Loades
examines Arthur's Romano-British background and Mark
reveals the location of Arthur's final resting place
may once have been in sacred burial grounds of ancient
people, now a leafy Cheshire village.

Episode 7: Return
to the Mysterious Isle
Mark is drawn back to the remote, mysterious mist
shrouded Isle of the Druids: Anglesey on the trail
of more dark history and human bravery. Mark encounters
tales of pirates, shipwrecks, gold treasure and a
terrible Viking massacre of innocent islanders. We
investigate Beaumaris Castle as a masterpiece of medieval
'state of the art' military technology and experience
the pleasures awaiting unfortunate souls in a Victorian
prison. Anglesey's deep waters tell countless stories
of derring do. But what still lies beneath the waves
undiscovered?

Manchester is a modern city isn’t it? Mark invites
us to think again as he goes in search of the city’s
secret history & lost treasures and reveals a
bizarre collection of gruesome objects and an amazing
lost world beneath the city of Manchester. But how
did it all start? What were the Romans doing here
and why is the Cathedral centre stage in the re-founding
of Manchester. What plans did Hitler have for Manchester
if he won the War? It’s no coincidence that both major
museums are showing exhibitions about the human attitude
to death. Our journey is over, but the adventure has
